China imposed a law on its population limiting each family to two children. In previous ages in China, which was then primarily an agricultural society, girl children were either sold off, or killed at birth. The family could only support so many mouths and boys were better able to help work the land. These may seem to be harsh methods to control a burgeoning population, but the alternative was to endure mass starvation.

The total earth population continues to grow and as it outstrips the world's ability produce sufficient food for its increasing numbers, Nature will take control of the situation and reduce the population to more manageable numbers.

It does this by mass starvation, drought, disease, and wars which will erupt between nation states over diminishing resources.
