It is based strictly on astronomical observations, and has nothing to do with the Pope, emperors, animals or myths. Due to its scientific and mathematical nature, we can easily and precisely calculate backward or forward for thousands of years.

There is no fixed date but the date will be between the 21st of January and the 21st of February, the reason behind this is because Chinese astrology follows a lunarsolar calendar (the calender follows the movements of the moon but follow the setup of a solar calendar) and thus the date may vary.
