Then from 602-905 AD China ruled Vietnam again. Then there was the short lived "Fourth Chinese domination" that lasted for 20 years in the 15th century. China invaded Vietnam for about 4 weeks in 1979, but pulled out with no clear winner (The Vietcong managed to hold onto Cambodia while China successfully destroyed Vietnam's offensive capabilities in the North).
