No- -Rev. William Blackstone was the first European to have settled in what is now Boston, and lived in what is now Rhode Island. The Reverend Blackstone conducted the first Anglican religious services of record in Rhode Island. -Roger Williams is considered the founder of Rhode Island. He was banished from Massachusetts and was the first white settler in Rhode Island; then occupied by the Narragansett Indians. Their chief Canonicus gave him land that the very religious Williams then named Providence.
