We celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas day. It is not likely that December 25th was the actual day Jesus was born, but since the fourth century, it has been the day his birth has been remembered.
Mary was told by the angel, Gabriel, to name her Son JESUS when he (Gabriel)apperared to her in Nazareth. After the birth of Jesus, He was circumcised on the eighth day after His birth and it was usual to name the child at that time. So even though they knew what He would be named it probably wasn't disclosed to anyone until the circumcision. (See the story of John the Baptist in Luke1:59-63)
