Ralph Waldo Emerson was known for calling the first Revolutionary War as the 'Shot heard round the world.' This is because of it's importance here in the United States and the world. The effects this has on world history and not just American history were huge.
because it was the first shot in the war
There have been two world wars in the history of the Earth. The first world war lasted between 1914 to 1918 and the second world war lasted from 1939 to 1945.

1. It was history's first and only (almost) truly global war (some nations were neutral...Spain, Portugal, South America, Switzerland, etc.). 2. It was the world's only truly TOTAL war, every weapon used (minus possibly some chemical weapons...banned by treaty). 3. It was the US's last DECLARED war. 4. It was the LAST TOTAL war in man's pre-atomic history. The atomic age commenced when the first Atomic Bomb was detonated, in 1945. 5. From 1945 to the present day; only limited wars can be fought (limited to non-nuclear weapons). A total war would be risking "mutually assured destruction." If fighting an equally nuclear armed enemy.
Because it was a very big war and the first which then lead on to wars like ww2 and ect.
