Akhenaten is the pharaoh who is largely credited for instilling monotheism as the main religion in Ancient Egypt. Though the cult of the god Ra had been growing already, Akhenaten decided to enforce his own brand of monotheism: worship centered around Aten, the disk of the sun.
Akhenaton also called Akhenaten, Amenhotep IV, Amenophis was king of Egypt (1353-36 BC) who established a new monotheistic cult of Aton (hence his assumed name, Akhenaton, meaning "One Useful to Aton"). He was the first historical figure to establish a religion based on the concept of monotheism.Akhenaten suffered from Marfan's Syndrome, what probably influenced form of his theologic theory.

The Pharoah Akhenaten attempted to change the polytheistic religion of Egypt into a monotheistic one worshipping the Aten. Pharoah Akenaten was Tut's father. He forced priests of the numerous Egyption gods to quit their jobs. He destroyed all the temples exept for Aten. During his rein, P. A. forced everyone to worship 1 got...Aten. After the pharoah died, the people tried to erase his name from histoy and go back to the old religion.
Akhenaton primarily worshipped the sun god Aten, representing the sun's disk. He is known for promoting monotheism and shifting the focus of Egyptian religion from the traditional pantheon of gods to Aten, establishing a unique theological framework during his reign. This radical change in worship included the construction of a new capital, Akhetaten (modern-day Amarna), dedicated to Aten.
PHARAOH AKHENATON changed Egypt's religion to monotheism. While he refused to propitiate the gods he had banned, he did perform all necessary secular duties of Pharaoh.
Someone answered this already, but it was because he originated monotheism in Egypt and built a new city, Amarna, away from Cairo and the old ways ensconced there. He was also Tutankamun's father, who was named Tutankaton during his father's lifetime. When Akhenaton died, Tutankamun moved the capital back to Cairo and abandoned monotheism.
Akhenaton was a leader (pharaoh) of Egypt.
Akhenaton's son-in-law was Tutankhamun, who was married to Akhenaton's daughter, Ankhesenamun. Tutankhamun succeeded Akhenaton as pharaoh of Egypt.
He tried to get Egypt to switch to monotheism (the worship of one god) whereas before they had been practicing polytheism (the worship of multiple gods). For this reason he was a very disliked pharoh
Scholars disagree about exactly who was Tutankhamen's father. Akhenaton, formerly Amenhotep IV, may have been Tut's father. Akhenaton is famous for abolishing traditional Egyptian religion and starting his own monotheistic religion that worshiped the sun. Some scholars believe that Akhenaton's monotheism may have influenced ancient Hebrew religion as one of Akhenaton's hymns to the Aten (sun) is very similar to Psalm 104.
