Burundi was originally colonized by Germany as part of German East Africa in the 1880s. After Germany was defeated in World War I, the area now known as Burundi was ceded to Belgium.
France
Just as with the rest of the African continent, it was colonized by the European powers for the purpose of empire (money, expansion of global influence, to "civilize" the "dark continent"). I believe Rwanda's cash crop was coffee... Germany ruled Rwanda until WW1, then the territory was handed over to Belgium, then independence from Belgium in the 1960s.
Several European nations colonized America. Spain colonized Florida and parts of the Southwest. England colonized the East Coast and further inland. France colonized the Mississippi River area. The Netherlands colonized the area around New York, but were driven out by England. Russian colonized Alaska.
Among the European countries that established their own colonies in Africa were Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. While some countries (including France, Spain, and Portugal) had colonized parts of Africa as far back as the 1500s, the majority of the colonization by the European powers occurred in the mid-to late 1800s. To a certain extent, the Dutch were apart of this colonization as they formed a group of other Europeans who settled in what was South Africa. They were called Afrikaners.
Colonizer refers those people or countries who establish colonies in a location. The colonized refers to those people or countries in the established colonies.
The Dutch colonized South Africa.
Brigham Young colonized many cities as did Joseph Smith.
A colonizer is a bacteria that lives on or in a person, but does not cause disease. For example, some people are colonized with staph aureus in the nares (nasal passages) but this colonization does not cause disease. In this context, staph aureus is a colonizer.
Forcing colonized people to speak the colonizer's language can erase their own cultural identity and language, leading to a loss of heritage and sense of self. It can also perpetuate power dynamics and reinforce colonial control. Ultimately, it can disadvantage the colonized people in terms of social, economic, and political opportunities.
The Sahel region was colonized by multiple European powers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. France was the main colonizer in the Sahel, establishing control over large parts of the region. Other European powers, such as the United Kingdom and Germany, also had smaller colonial holdings in certain areas of the Sahel.

It is a work focused on decolonization that is remembered for its impact on the colonized, on culture, on history, on the very concept of civilization itself, and most importantly, on the colonizer. tends to exclude, of course, statements about the exploitation of the resources of the colonized, the political status accruing to colonizing powers, the importance to domestic politics of the development of an empire, all of which may be compelling reasons for maintaining colonial ties
