The various religious orders lost their land and the income from it, but Henry was able to give that land to his friends and allies, which would enable him to call upon them for help if he went to war or if he needed a loan.

The large amount of dressed stone from the buildings was sold to local merchants, by the new landowners, who were able to sell it on at a profit.

A lot of the orders made their money from the wool trade; this also passed into private hands.

So he was taking from the rich religious orders and giving to his friends. Not quite a Robin Hood!
