Was Rommel part 0f Hitler assassinating?

The short answer is that he (Rommel) was not personally involved. However, he was approached by the group of German Staff and asked to join, upon which he declined. He was implicated for his failure to warn Hitler about the attempt on his life as well as the coup attempt.

He was given the option of poison with a state burial, or the culling of his family. He took the poison.

Erwin Rommel was not directly involved in the plot to kill Hitler. He was asked by the conspirators in the plot that if they were to remove Hitler if he would assume power. He agreed upon the condition that as soon as he had gained power, he would surrender the war and step down. If Hitler was removed Rommel, who had control of the entire Wehrmacht would not have had an issue with taking over. In addition some of the commanders of SS divisions had given their trust in Rommel and would have joined.

Hitler discovered Rommel's indirect support of the potential post-Hitler government, and therefore sent military officers to convince Rommel to commit suicide (with poison pills) and avoid a trial in mid-1944 (after D-Day). Rommel was already a national hero for his victories in North Africa (1941-1942).
