That would depend on a couple of specific things. The period and whether you were a citizen of Rome or a slave. During theheight of the Roman Empire it's citizens enjoyed a way of life superior to almost anyplace else in the world. However, there were more slaves in Rome than citizens and beinga slave anywhere at anytime would not have been pleasant. Towards the end of the roman empire it would have become less nice. Taxes were high and then other empires wanted to take over Rome so war became very close and personal in people's lives at that point. Rome was always at war conquering other countries but in the end the wars came to people's front door.
