Hannibal's contribution to Italy was an invasion and the devastation or rural areas in Italy.

Hannibal was elected head of Carthage after the Second Punic War. He tackled corruption and challenged the power of the oligarchy and made Carthage relatively more democratic.

Hannbal fled carhtage because the Romans wanted the carthaginians to hand him to them. He became a military advisor to Antiochus III, the Seleucid king in Syria who was preparing for was against Rome. He was the commander of the Seleucid fleet in two naval battles against Rome. When Antiochus was defeated, He became a military advisor of Prusias I, the king of Bithynia (in north-western Turkey) who was at war with the neighbouring Kingdom of Pergamon, an ally of Rome.
