Guerrilla warfare had nothing to do with it. The US fought guerrilla war itself back in 1775, 1861, WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. It's just a tactic, anyone can utilize it. The war was lost because:
1. Couldn't invade the north
2. Couldn't use nukes
3. Couldn't stop the flow of men/material in RVN
