That year would have aslo been during the Persian Empire, the Mongolian Empire, and the Yayoi peridod in Japan. These cultures too had been using drugs for years.

The use of medicinal foods as well as chemically-derived substances likely predate written history by thousands of years, as the most ancient of texts seem to make references to benefits and uses of plants.


Additionally, all of the plants used today as narcotics would have existed 2000 years ago.
