The Roman litter was a symbol of status and wealth in ancient Rome. It was a luxurious mode of transportation carried by slaves or servants, allowing the wealthy to travel comfortably and be seen as important figures in society. The use of a litter indicated a person's social standing and power, as only the elite could afford such a lavish form of transportation.

A ship was required transport inter-island and between the Peloponnese and mainland Europe. Her dependence upon sea vessels contributed to the development of Greece's naval excellence. On land, chariots, horses and mules were modes of transport. Horses were better suited to light travel and were seldom used. Mules were preferred for heavier moving and were the most common means of transportation. They had better footing for the mountainous terrain, could cover an average 50 miles per day and required fewer hours of sleep than horses.
Roman transportation was good for its time. Their roads made moving goods and travel for people efficient. However, it was slow and bumpy compared with today. They could only go at the speed of their horses and if traveling in a carriage or wagon, the ride was bumpy as there were no springs to cushion the carriage from the road. Travel by ship was smoother (if one was not prone to seasickness) but it too was slow compared with today as a ship's speed depended upon either the wind or rowers. litter was used to stuff the pharaohs corpse after the entrails have been removed
A Roman litter was basically a carrying platform. It was a rectangular board with long side poles which were raised on the shoulders of slaves to transport people or goods. If it were a litter used by people, it generally had an awning with side curtains and the inside was lined with cushions. The wealthier the person, the more luxuriously, the litter. If it were used for carrying goods into the city, it was simply a basic board with poles.

Hieroglyphs. Millions of characters made different words and sounds in ancient Egyptian, and hieroglyphs litter the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, along with rich pictures.
Ocean surfaces tend to have more litter than land horizons due to factors like maritime transportation, ocean dumping, and beach littering. Coastal regions also experience significant littering due to human activity and waste disposal.
Their method of travel all depended upon where they were going. If just around the city, some would use a litter or carrying chair, but most would walk as it was the most efficient way of getting around the crowded city. If going on a longer trip, the land transportation was either carriage, or litter or even wagons. Ships were used for sea trips and also used in combination with land transport, if speed was important. Government messengers used horseback.

litter
It's an assertion of dominance 'throw-back' to their wild ancestors. In the wild, a litter of pups would have to depend solely on their parents for food. The most dominant members of the litter would get the 'lions share'. Nipping and biting each other sets up a hierarchy so that the most dominant puppy gets the most food.
