There are hundreds of thousands of painters about. In all probability some of them paint things which could be described as surrealistic. But looking at the leading galleries and auction houses surrealism is not a thing of this moment.
Artists from the Northern Renaissance specialized in a type of paint called oils. The oil medium allowed the painters to exhibit great detail and in their works of art. Textures of wood or cloth and also reflections off mirrors were all created in great detail because of the oil paints.
