In 1940, the German army and air force overwhelmed France and the lowlands with massive surprise attacks on Allied defenses. Defensive walls such as the Marginot Line, were simply outflanked by the massive assaults by German tanks and armies. This was a "lightening war " of in Germ a Blitzkrieg that quickly conquered Western Europe within months. Soon Hitler was in Paris itself and forced France to surrender.
Basically, it was the swiftness of the German advancement, known as blitzkrieg - lightning war.
I'm pretty sure its France. The Gerrman army went through the Ardenne forest to the Belgian border defense line and flanked the Allied army in Belgium... The Allies thought the Germans were gonna pass through Belgium and then to France. The Blitzkrieg was used against the French. They were ill prepared to defeat the Nazis. The French leaders capitulated and surrendered against the will of the French people. The Ardenne Forest and Allied battle was much later after the Normandy Invasion. The French and Brits lost big time in the Battle of Dunkirk in the Blitzkrieg of 1940.

No, the the French had a 4 to 1 advantage in manpower. The Spanish had the advantage of the high ground, they had dug a trench line and every third infantry man was armed with an arquebus. Gunfire had made the difference. The French had a two to one advantage in artillery, massed musket fire was the only Spanish advantage and Spain suffered only 100 casualties compared to the 4,000 dead or wounded among the French and the Swiss. It was a small arms victory and the nature of warfare was changed forever.
They and Great Britain had committed to the defense of Poland.

The French Defense is a solid opening strategy in chess that can be effective for players of all levels. It focuses on controlling the center of the board and developing pieces efficiently. However, it does have its drawbacks, such as potentially passive pawn structures. Overall, the French Defense can be a good choice for players looking for a strategic and solid opening.
The Blitzkrieg did not end WWI. Ludendorf's assault tactics, and the troops released from the Russian front due to the separate peace treaty with Lenin, gained a temporary advantage, but it was not enough to stem the tide of fresh American troops reinforcing the exhausted British, Belgian, and French forces. The Blitzkrieg was developed after WWI to take advantage of tanks which the British introduced at the end of WWI with limited success.

Hitler used a style of war called blitzkrieg. In turn France made the Maginot line which was an amazingly powerful line of defense however it had a major flaw. It faced one way and defended one way only, against the expected blitzkrieg. Hitler simply went around it and the French surrendered. However French soldiers did lose their lives and it was a tragic turn of events despite the surrendering itself.
Strategy is "la stratégie" (fem.) in French.
Germany's response to the Maginot Line, a fortified defense line along the French-German border, was to bypass it by invading France through Belgium during World War II. This strategy was part of the Blitzkrieg tactic, allowing German forces to outflank the heavily fortified line and quickly advance into France. The Germans viewed the Maginot Line as a static defense that could be circumvented, demonstrating their emphasis on mobility and surprise in warfare. Ultimately, this tactic contributed to the rapid fall of France in 1940.
