My versionThis will sound trite but, times were different.

People made it to 35 or 40 on average (of those who made it to adult age).

But as there was no health care this does not really tell the story.

There were and always have been the elderly, they may have been quite rare but people living into their 70s and 80s were there. Rare and remarkable, but it was possible.

If you think of it this way: most people died of what we think of as easily cured infections or complications from minor injuries.

The people of this time had no real expectation of a long life or a short life, each day was just another day.
