Roger Williams' ideas contributed to the concept of freedom of religion. In 1636, the establishment of Rhode Island began and was known especially for their religious freedoms. Those who had the freedom to worship in their own ways consisted of Jewish, Catholics, Protestants, and Native Americans. Williams was determined to uphold separation, so the "Freedom of Religion" Amendment was later developed and added into today's U.S. Constitution.
