In the years preceding World War I (and to some extend during the war itself), Germany's military interests were twofold: First, Germany continued to perfect its powerful land forces, with special emphasis upon logistical support and quick-mobilization plans. Second, Germany engaged in a massive naval build-up in the hope to attain parity with (or even superiority to) the world's strongest navy at that time, the British navy.
