The united states was brought in on 2 factors, German U-Boats torpedoed an English passengers ship that was carrying Americans on board, AND Hitler had sent a letter to Mexico asking and persuading them to invade the U.S. and finally Hitler knew he was in over his head when he received word of the Japanese bombing of pearl harbor. The over all effect of WWII resulted in over 50 million casualties and the extermination of over 6 million Jews.
