They were two completely different cultures. They spoke differnet languages, ate different food, and believed in different things.
The Mayans and the Aztecs are the most famous civilizations found in central America. Both of them ceased to exist because of civil war and the introduction of foreign diseases.

There are many of them but the Aztec Templo Mayor (Major Temple) in Mexico City and the Mayan Chichen Itza in the Yucatan peninsula are the most notorious.

Mayans and Aztecs are alike because they, Mayans and Aztecs, are both acient American civilizations and they both crossed Mexico in one point in time. (A/N: Sorry, there are not many similarities between the Mayans and Aztecs. I am actually trying to find out more myself. These two are the only ones I could find right off Google Search. No the Spanish actually defeated Aztecs and the Mayans but althogh they always faught but mayans did not deafeat the Aztecs /// <-- That´s not true: The Mayas were an ancient culture that lasted from year 2000 to 1546 and the Aztecs (Better known as "Mexicas") lived from 1325 to 1521 (our age). They were two separated cutures located in two completely different places, not even near from each other and as far as it is known they never fought (they did´NT have a reason to do so).
The Mayans inhabited the Yucatan Peninsula in present-day Mexico and Central America, while the Aztecs lived in the central highlands of present-day Mexico. They were two distinct civilizations with different cultures, languages, and histories.
