The artifacts left behind by archaic Native Americans were often tools or other items serving a useful function, although some artistic items were also found.

One type of tool was used for preparing plant foods. Manos are stones that were moved back and forth across a larger stone, metate, to grind seeds and nuts.

In some well-preserved sites, perishable items have been found. Some of these artifacts are sandals, baskets, and snares made from plant fibres, as well as deerskin clothing.
