Many military historians point to the Battle of Gettysburg to be an attempt by Confederate General Robert E. Lee's to win a decisive victory over the Union that could be described as one that resembled a Napoleonic era type victory. Two large armies fought a long three day battle in Gettysburg Pennsylvania that had the possibility of forcing the Union to sue for peace. If Lee had won, he might have captured the capital of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. It was the best chance the Confederates had to also be recognized as a true nation state by England and France. And, anti war groups in the North might have gained so much momentum as to force the Lincoln administration to agree to end hostilities. Certainly there is no doubt that the following year's presidential race in the North would have also been affected.

Why did the south attack the north in Gettysburg?

The South attacked the North at Gettysburg primarily to gain a decisive victory that could shift the momentum of the Civil War in favor of the Confederacy. General Robert E. Lee aimed to invade the North, hoping to compel the Union to negotiate for peace and to secure foreign recognition and support. The battle also sought to relieve pressure on Virginia by drawing Union forces away from that state. Ultimately, the conflict at Gettysburg was a critical attempt by the Confederacy to assert its strength and influence in the war.

What is the continental power of the Napoleonic wars?

I am unsure what a continental power was, unless you mean the continental system. The continental system was Napoleon's attempt to blockade Britain. It prevented his allies from trading with Britain, hoping to economically ruin the country. It ultimately failed, due to Britain's navy, allowing Britain to continue oversea trading. Alternatively, If you meant what were the continental powers of the Napoleonic Wars, then they would probably be: France Austria Prussia Russia Spain England was a European power, but not a continental one, for obvious reasons

Was the napoleonic code good or bad?

The Napoleonic codes were an attempt to settle all verbal and unwritten laws in a larger, fixed set of laws. That had the effect of unifying the regional rules into a national one, and to make the law clearer for judges and the population; these codes formed the basis for the Civil or the Criminal codes in France and in many countries in Europe, and had a lot of influence on the set of laws in the former French colonies.
