During World War II, the Soviet Union held the belief that communism would eventually spread all over the world. Initially, it had a pact with Germany, and considered becoming part of the Axis. However, the pact that Stalin had made with Hitler dissolved when Germany attacked Russia. The invasion spiked nationalism, and the civilians rallied to protect Mother Russia from the German invaders. At this point, Russia joined forces with the Allies.
