They were imbued with a sense of their own identity, destiny and entitlement to lead the Greek world. They were also filled with a sense of entitlement and will to exploit others' weaknesses. They were absolutely ruthless in achieving their aims and self profit and advancement.

They also had a great love of beauty, in their art, arts and building. The males were dominant but even tough farmer-warriors happily played the female parts in their theatre.

They had a strong sense of religion based on their idea that if you gave the gods due honour, they would look after you, but also had a strong cynicism in also deriding the gods in the stories they told of them and in offering entrails and offal to the gods and eating the meat of the sacrifices themselves

Their attitude to women was totally dominant - wives were kept in virtual purdah. Slaves had no right and could be punished, killed and prostituted as a matter of course.

These diverse emotional approaches led to a very diverse society - both ruthless and soft - killing at whim, crying over sad tragedies, laughing at sordid comedies. And both inventive in building, the arts and philosophy, but callous in killing prisoners, slaves and a Socrates who was teaching the young to think for themselves.
