What celebrations does France have?

The most popular celebrations in France are:

-Christmas (called "Noël") but it's on the 24th at midnight, on the 25th, you see the rest of the families or finish the party :)

- Bastille Day, the 14th of July, the national day of France. There are military processions in every city.

- New Year's Eve ( "le Jour de l'An")often celebrated with family or you can party with friends. Wine and Champagne are necesary.

- The Feast of the Assumption, on 15th August.

-Easter (not PAC but "Pâques"). Adults hide chocolate and sweets (chocolate eggs, fishes ad bells) in gardens and children look for them. Always happens on Sunday (this year it's April the 12)

- There is Mother's Day (either on the last Sunday of May or the first of June, it's called "la Fête des Mères)). Children tend to buy flowers, chocolate and handmade gifts. Contrary to what you said, there is a Father's Day (not officially but still celebrated, "la Fête des Pères") on the third Sunday of June.

- Important too, the GrandMother's Day (first Sunday of March, called "la Fête des Grand-Mères).

- January the 6th, Fête des Rois Mages or l'Epiphanie (Epiphany) where you buy "galette des rois" in bakeries. A lucky charm, "une fève" is hidden in the cake and the one who finds it is the King/Queen for the day.

There are also celebrations linkes to religion like "la Pentecôte" (Whitsun), seven weeks after Easter or Ascension Day 39 days after Easter........

- Valentine's Day on February the 14th

- Still in February, the 2nd, it's Chandeleur Day! You make "crêpes" with your family, very warm celebration.
