Florida is one state mistakenly named by people as an original colony. This is not true because it wasn't a state until March 3, 1845, more than 68 years after American independence. This is not true because during the colonization of the present-day American Atlantic region, Maine was part of Massachusetts (as a colony and state). It did not become a state until March 15, 1820, more than 43 years after American independence.
