Henry VIII got a divorce and remarried, but still wanted to be part of the church. So he split off and made his own church and made him the head of it, so that he would be able to marry Anne Boleyn and be part of the church. This made his whole country have to stop being Catholic and start being Anglican.

Besides martyring Thomas Beckett and contributing 50% of his DNA to the worst king in English history, Henry II made some of the most constitutionally important improvements to England's legal system. When Henry II came to the throne, England was in terrible shape. He was a meticulous bookkeeper and managed Crown finances carefully. He called for a survey of all the lands much like William the Conqueror did with the Domesday book, and secured his tenants' oaths of homage and fielty. He created a standing army with the Assize of Arms and also brought the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans together under royal authority. He created 3 new courts from his Curia Regis: Court of King's Bench, Court of Common Pleas, and Court of the Exchequer. But one of the key changes in Henry's legal reform was the role of the itinerant justices. Under Henry II, the number of itinerant justices in increased to 21, who visited 6 different circuits 3 times a year. During their stay in the towns, the local courts became royal courts and reinforced the idea that the king is the fountainhead of all justice - thus encouraging loyalty from all his subjects. Legislation and parliament also evolved tremendously during his reign with the development of the Register of Writs, not to mention the evolution of both petty and criminal law. It is truly impressive how much Henry got done while he was king, and still had time for philandering.
