Lee called slavery "An unmixed evil", did not believe in it. Duty, and honor to one's self and country were his major beliefs.

Mexican-American War I believe
In his letter to his son, Robert E. Lee refers to the evils of war and slavery. He expresses the belief that war brings immense suffering and destruction, while slavery is a moral and social evil that harms both enslaved individuals and society as a whole. Lee emphasizes the importance of moral integrity and the pursuit of justice, urging his son to reflect on these issues thoughtfully.
Robert E. Lee disapproved of slavery and secession, the only reason he joined the South is because his home ,Virginia seceded along with the other Southern states. He disliked the South for seceding and slavery, but he could not betray his people. He didn't disliked the North, but he did not like how the U.S. government was handling the situation

He abolished slavery
because he wanted slavery
Robert e lee believed slavery was wrong but still fought for the south because he had to fight for his home, the south.
I believe that Robert E. Lee became general in the April of 1861.
The idea that slavery should not be ended all at once, but phased-out over time, was sensible enough. It was the moralising about it that lacked credibility. Even Robert E. Lee, the epitome of the responsible Southern aristocrat, declared that slavery was an undoubted evil that the Almighty would bring to an end when He saw fit. It is hard to believe that Lee actually thought this.
yes
Robert E. Lee
All were against slavery
Ultimately, it was Lee's failure that changed the world. Grant's victory led to the 14th Amendment. Had Lee won, slavery would have remained intact.
