they failed
La Salle attempted to establish a French colony at the site of present-day Fort Saint Louis, near Matagorda Bay in Texas. In 1685, he led an expedition to the region, hoping to create a settlement to further French claims in North America. However, the colony faced numerous challenges, including hostile relations with local Native American tribes and difficulties in resupply, ultimately leading to its failure.
Fort Louis replaced Fort Maurepas.
The first French settlement in the Louisiana colony was called Fort Maurepas, established in 1699 near present-day Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Founded by Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, it served as the initial base for French exploration and colonization of the region. The settlement marked the beginning of French influence in the area that would later become part of Louisiana.
Fort Duquesne was the Fort that the French built on the site of the former British Fort Prince George in present day Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fort Duquesne.
