The Oto and Missouri tribes lived so closely together that they are often treated as one people: the Oto-Missouri.
They originally lived in the area that later became the Iowa-Minnesota border, later migrating westwards to settle in Nebraska, near the Platte river. They lived mainly in earthlodges like the Mandans, Hidatsas and Arikaras, sometimes using tipis or bark lodges when out hunting.
