The Preamble
The inability of the central government to gain support from the states under the Articles of Confederation led to the drafting of the U.S. Constitution, particularly emphasizing the establishment of a stronger federal government. This was reflected in the creation of the Supremacy Clause in Article VI, which asserts that federal laws take precedence over state laws. Additionally, the Constitution introduced mechanisms for federal taxation and regulation of commerce, addressing the weaknesses of the Articles that had hindered effective governance.
Some provinces joined Confederation to gain economic stability and security, as they sought the benefits of a unified market and infrastructure development. The promise of a stronger defense against external threats, particularly from the United States, also motivated provinces to unite. Additionally, political considerations, including the desire for self-governance and the need for cooperative governance structures, played a role in their decision to join. Overall, the advantages of collaboration in addressing regional challenges were significant factors in their choice to enter Confederation.
They could give less power to the states while still letting them be independent and free. This would allow the central government to regulate trade, tax fairly which in turn would pay off the war debt. Also, due to the Articles of Confederation, any one state legislature had the power to hold back any ratification that was passed by every other state. This allowed that one state to ask for anything for its own personal gain which might ruin the economy.

Wrong. First, Ontario did not exist as such until Confederation. Second, that part of the Province of Canada which had formerly been Upper Canada (and which formed the basis of today's Ontario) had the most to gain from Confederation and was the strongest supporter of Confederation. Third, although all provinces have benefited from Confederation, it is probably fair to say that Ontario has benefited the most from Confederation.
