After the pearl harbor we carpet bombed and atomic bombed Japan

Actually the US first actively joined the war against Nazi Germany, briefly ignoring Japan. The first real attack on Japan we used several of our remaining carriers to take Doolittle's bombers within range to bomb Tokyo. Then we began a slow bloodycrawl hopping island to island (mostly the Marine Corp), until we captured several islands within range of Japan. On each long runways were built for B-29 bombers, and we began firebombing most Japanese cities with magnesium and white phosphorus incendiaries triggering large firestorms and killing up to 50,000 Japanese per attack. Finally two missions flew from Tinnian island, three Silverplate modified B-29 planes each (one strike plane carrying 1 atomic bomb and two recon/observer planes). The first mission on August 6, 1945 hit Hiroshima (the primary), the second mission on August 9, 1945 hit Nagasaki (the secondary because the primary was totally overcast). Soon Japan surrendered. Each atomic bombing killed about 100,000 Japanese.
