Fighting in the Spanish-American War posed significant challenges due to the vast distances between the United States and the theaters of conflict in Cuba and the Philippines. Logistical issues arose in transporting troops, supplies, and equipment across oceans, leading to delays and potential shortages. Additionally, communication difficulties hindered coordination and strategy, complicating efforts to respond swiftly to changing battlefield conditions. These factors ultimately impacted the effectiveness and efficiency of military operations during the war.

some might suggest that the US helped the Spanish colonies (that later became countries) of Cuba and the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. Others would say that the US simply took territory from Spain and was not particularly interested in helping anyone else.
There were no African American officers! The 4 "colored" regiments ( as they were officially called) were regulars-not volunteers, consisting of African American enlisted men led by white officers. They fought hard and well, but no harder or better than any other unit. Of late, the units, especially the 10th, have been credited with saving the "Rough Riders" on San Juan Hill and being the "only" units to see the heaviest fighting. The 4th Infantry, a non black white unit, actually suffered the most with 40% casualties!
