The Soviet Union was becoming so communist and was wanting every other nation to become communist, so they started a war because of their strong belief in communism. The united states, Japan and the united nations wanted to stop them from spreading communism and didn't really succeed during the cold war, all the U.S. did was keep them from spreading to South Korea.
