The entertainments of women was similar to that of men. Roman women were not confined in the house like Greek women. They met up with friends in the street regularly. Like most Romans, they went to the baths which were also place for socialising, exercising and playing sports. They also went to the forum to meet friends and to participate in public debates. They also went to the many public games which were scheduled during the year, chariot races, gladiatorial games and religious festivals. Women who could afford it went to the theatre. Originally women dined together, but by the Late Republic they attended dinner parties. Despite objection by conservatives, educated women also started to voice their opinions in public matters, even though they were not allowed to take an active role in politics.
