Nothing. HUAC was not involved in the "witch hunt" McCarthy hearings (the ones compared the the Salem trials), which were performed by a different government committee.

The McCarthy Witch trials are actually considered McCarthyism. This is the practice of accusing individuals of disloyalty, treason and subversion without any factual evidence. This originates from a period in the U.S known as the Second Red Scare, from the 1940's and 1950's.
Henry created a system for trials that had Grand Jury Trials and regular trials. Grand Jury trials decided whether or not the evidence supports the accusation enough to go to a trial. The regular trial decided if the accused was innocent or guilty. And the juries were made of common people instead of nobility.
Witch executions were most common in Europe and colonial America during the late 15th to the 18th centuries. Notable regions included Germany, England, Scotland, and the American colonies, particularly during the Salem witch trials in 1692. The fear of witchcraft, driven by social, religious, and political factors, led to widespread hunts and trials, resulting in thousands of executions. The practice gradually declined as Enlightenment thinking emerged, promoting reason and skepticism over superstition.
Burning is the European form of this sport. American victims were hanged.

She was not. On October 20, 1947 she testified to the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) regarding Song of Russia, a pro-Russia WWI propaganda film. She originally wanted to testify about the recent and popular Oscar-winning film The Best Years of Our Lives but they wouldn't let her as they feared attacking a popular film. Joseph McCarthy had nothing to do with the House (as he was a Senator) and didn't start his anti-communist crusade in the Senate until 1950.

The blacklist, particularly in Hollywood during the late 1940s and 1950s, led to a series of highly publicized trials and hearings, most notably the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) hearings. These trials aimed to investigate alleged communist influences in the film industry, resulting in many writers, directors, and actors being called to testify. Some, like the "Hollywood Ten," refused to cooperate and were subsequently jailed for contempt of Congress, while others faced blacklisting that severely impacted their careers. The trials highlighted the tension between national security concerns and civil liberties during the Red Scare.
The Committee of Public Safety under the leadership of Robespierre.
In the 1950's, Senator Joe McCarthy headed the Congressional Committee on Un-American Activities. This was, in effect, a modern day witch hunt for alleged communists (Reds). People were ruthlessly persecuted, harassed and had their careers taken away from them by baseless claims of communist activity. They were prodded to implicate their friends, much the same way as people were encouraged to name names during the Salem Witch Trials.

The chief prosecutor in the Nuremberg trials was Justice Robert H. Jackson, who was the chief American prosecutor.
Miller was looking for historical parallels for his own time. False accusations by "Red-Baiters" testifying in front of the House on Un-American Activities Committee ruined lives without providing any proof. The accusation alone was enough to kill a career. Miller found his Historical Correlative in the Salem Witch Trials where the unsubstantiated accusations of little girls led to the hangings of innocent people.

In the United States, statistics show that jury trials are more common than bench trials. According to data, about 90-95 of criminal cases and 80-90 of civil cases are decided by juries. Bench trials, where a judge decides the case without a jury, are less common. This is due to the preference for a jury of peers to decide the outcome of a trial in many legal systems.
The Scottsboro Trials were the court trials of several African American boys charged with sexual assault. There were many aspects of the trial that were considered unfair. The trials took place in 1931, which was not a time of racial equality. The African American boys had an all-white jury, as a result. There is some evidence that the boys were falsely accused, which led to death sentences for them. During that decade and beyond, many African American individuals were targeted. This is one example.
