That has happened to me before and what I did was that I talked to the person and tried to see what I can do, but if the person simply doesn't want to talk to you, I advice that you should let the person calm down and then the person will come to you and talk to you.
From what i have experienced, at times things get really bad just because both the parties are waiting for the other to say something. I suggest that always be the first one to initiate the conversation. Its OK if you have to do it over and over again, that's what love is all about. You just need to reassure the person that you still do love him/her. Keep trying and things do get better, however tough they seem at the moment.
