The Etruscans were not particularly known for much of anything, excerpt being an early influence on the culture of Rome. They were just one of the many cultures that inhabited pre-Roman Italy, but happened to be the people that ruled Rome for a while and then were overthrown by Rome. They left artifacts as did other societies and there is a lot of general speculation about how closely Roman and Etruscan cultures merged.
