The eastern half was occupied by the Soviet Union. and the western half was divided up amongst France, the UK, and the United States. Berlin was also divided almost completely in half with with NATO forces occuping the western half and the SU in the eastern half, even though Berlin was over 60* miles inside the soviet unions half of east Germany. *if my memory serves correct. might want to look up that number
