When the prisoners first arrive at the camps the men are told to stand in one line and the women/children in another line. Then, an SS Guard or 'camp doctor' would go around and inspect the people. After, the 'camp doctor', like Josef Mengele, would go to the front and send people either to the right or the left; right being life and hard labor and left being death, most likely by gassing. Most of the women/children were gassed upon arrival because they were supposed to be incapable of working.
