That depends on your definition of 'historical event'. Krakow never was the site of any history-changing fact happening, but is was made the capital of Poland in 1038 and remained so for over 500 years; it was made the seat of the Nazi's "General Government" during WW II; and Pope John Paul II and filmmaker Roman Polanski were born there. So take your pick.
