John (Giovanni) Cabot sailed for Henry VII of England three times. On his visit voyage, he made it to Newfoundland (which is currently part of Canada), becoming the first European in North America since the Vikings. The second was short and uneventful. The site of his single landing is disputed. but it is agreed that it was in what is now Northeastern America (namely Maine) and southeastern Canada. When the ship was returning, the were too far south and arrived in Brittany (next to Normandy, France) before getting to England. Cabot never returned from the third voyage. The same can be said of the sailors with him and his ships.
During John Cabot's 1497 voyage, he is credited with the European discovery of parts of North America, specifically the coast of Newfoundland. His expedition, sponsored by England, aimed to find a westward route to Asia but instead led to the exploration of the New World. Cabot's journey marked the beginning of the English claims to territories in North America, paving the way for future exploration and colonization. Additionally, his findings contributed to the European understanding of the continent's geography and resources.
