Francisco De Coronado was born in Salamanca, Spain in 1510. H traveled to the New World. He became the governor of New Galicia. Later, he was asked to lead a venture to the Seven Cities of Cibola. He lead many men on foot across Arizona to New Mexico. When he found it did not exist, a captive Indian told him of Quivira, another gold-filled place. He traveled into Oklahoma and Kansas. Quivira was dismissed as a myth as well. He returned to New Galicia, and was relieved of his duty as governor. He stayed in Mexico until his death in 1544.
