You could say that Vasco da Gama was smart; after all he navigated through uncharted and dangerous waters to get to India.

He was probably also very daring and courageous. After all, sailing for months in an unknown part of the world where there were legends of sea monsters and other terrible maritime disasters wasn't for the faint of heart.

Lastly, he was a good leader. If not, how could he have kept the crew from mutiny even though they lost sight of land for about 90 days?
