Why was the dalit participation in civil disobedience movement limited?

Dalit participation in the Civil Disobedience Movement was limited due to the following reasons:-They were keen on a different political solution to the problem of their community. They began organizing themselves, demanding reserved seats in the educational institutions, and a separate electorate for themselves.Dalit organization was very strong in Maharashtra and Nagpur regions.Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar pressed the demand for separate electorates for Dalits in the Second Round Table Conference. On 16 August, 1932 the British Prime Minister announced Communal Award for depressed communities.Gandhiji and Congress condemned the award as a sinister plan worked out to weaken the freedom struggle.Gandhiji was in Yervada Jail starting an indefinite fast on 20 September , 1932 , to force the British Prime Minister to withdraw that part of the award which was applicable to the depressed communities.Ambedkar ultimately accepted Gandhiji’s position which led to the signing of the Poone Pact in 1932.
