Back then there weren't any refrigerators, and technology was very poor. They had the benefit of fresh food, but not very tasteful foods. Food back then was plain, but indeed healthier than what it is now. Now foods are processed and many things are altered with the basic ingredients to satisfy your taste buds, but won't satisfy the way in which you look.
