the cheapest is by air... i know exactly where you are coming from about travelling by boat etc but the fact is that a)it will take a lot longer than 1 week, and b) it usually costs more than a cheap early bird flight because the fact is you will be calling in at ports around the world which is in itself a holiday. My advice is get a online quote from STA travel, then take this to a STA shop/agency, then take this quote to flight centre and they will usually match it :P
