It depends on whether one includes the region of western Russia. Theoretically, Europe is larger. Australia is universally accepted as being the smallest continent. Australia's area is 7 686 848 sq km while Europe's area is 10 180 000 sq km. This includes Russia, which is divided between Europe and Asia.

However, Australia is much bigger than many people imagine.
